Busy Tuesday is complete!!

In Language Arts, we worked on the revising phase and students were given more ideas about their topic as they continued to write.
In Science, we completed an investigation with bubbles, and showed the importance of sharing results.
In Math, we learned the new concept of rounding numbers.
In Reading, the students listened to the story of The Gruffalo, and completed a story map.
In Social Studies, we learned about holidays.

HOMEWORK: Science p. 48, and Social Studies p. 4

IMPORTANT: The school will be spraying for mosquitoes this Friday, August 28th at 4:00 due to the recent outbreak of dengue fever. Please pick up your child promptly this Friday, as the company wishes to start spraying the grounds at 4:00. Thank you!

Aug. 24, 2015

Good evening, I hope everyone had a great weekend. Thanks for coming to the parent teacher meeting, I was glad to meet you and discuss this school year with you. Again, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Sending me a message through Dojo is preferred, and I will respond to the messages as soon as possible during school hours. I will try to respond to messages in the evenings if I feel that the situation requires immediate action. Also, if you want to write a message or have a question but can only communicate in Chinese, please write it in the Communication book, and I will gladly have the staff translate it for me.

Today we began the new unit in Math and learned how to compare numbers. In Reading, we used strategies to try find the definition of multiple meaning words. In Social, we discussed customs and traditions among ethnic groups.

HOMEWORK: Journeys workbook p. 11, and Math workbook p. 9.

QUIZZES/TEST this week: Science quiz on Thursday from Unit 1, Spelling on Friday, and Math quiz Friday from Chapter 2.

Aug. 21, 2015

Happy Friday everybody!!

As of now, the typhoon has veered off a bit, so it looks like the parent teacher meeting will be on tomorrow (unless anything changes of course). Please bring any questions you have for me. I will also be giving you some information about myself, my teaching style, and some plans I have for the school year. I will be in my classroom to chat with all of you between 8:30am-9:15am.  After 9:15am, you will be encouraged to visit the minor subject teachers (Music, Chinese, PE, Computer, Art). Finally, we will all gather in the auditorium to end the morning.

Today, we had another busy day completing many activities:
  • Reading - in small groups we compared and contrasted stories about schools
  • Science - presented our graphs and completed text work
  • Math - reviewed the quiz
  • LA - began the drafting phase where students started to make sentences for their descriptive
HOMEWORK:
1) Math p. 8 - not necessary anymore as we did not cover the new material
2) Reading and Phonics Written Assignment - we read a story about a one room school today, their assignment is to imagine our school only had one room, and write about it. What problems would there be? They should be able to write at least 4 sentences.

NEW Spelling test for next week, Aug. 21 - depend, community, citizen, predict, observe, ruler, microscope, hundred, thousand, greater than

Aug. 20, 2015

Thursday has come to an end. On Thursdays students only have me for 3 core subjects, and here's what we did today:
  • Language Arts - continued to work on, and organize ideas for their descriptive writing
  • Science - learned how to use data from investigations, and how to display this data (students worked in groups and created graphs, see pictures below)
  • Math - quiz - the students did very well on their first quiz
 
    

HOMEWORK - Spelling test tomorrow, please study!
                         - Journeys p. 7

Reminder that the parent teacher meeting on Saturday begins at 8:30am. It looks like the typhoon is moving away from Taiwan, but if the meeting is canceled because of the typhoon, you will be notified. Please bring any questions you have regarding the 2015-16 school year, and I'll be happy to answer them.

Also, PE day tomorrow. Students may wear their casual uniforms, and bring an extra PE shirt to change into after as it is rather hot outside.

Finally, electives begin tomorrow and they all appear to be great ones. Each student was informed which elective they have been placed into. It should be a fun way to end the week.
