Happy last day!! It is an exciting time of the year, but it's also a sad time because I will truly miss my Terrific Third Graders. It has been a wonderful school year, and I was blessed to have such an amazing group of boys and girls in my first year here. You definitely made it such a wonderful, fun, and entertaining year.

This morning we had a visitor come and meet the students, Miss Lu, and she loved the kids. We had a busy morning making a craft, having story time, cleaning, sorting, sharing stories, eating pizza, receiving final exams, getting Dojo prizes, and receiving individual awards. It couldn't have been a better morning.

The afternoon we filled our tummies with all kinds of healthy foods: pizza, popcorn, chips, and finally........a delicious ice cream Birthday cake!!!  A Happy Birthday goes out to Eden as her birthday is on June 1st. Thank you so much for sharing the cake.

HOMEWORK:
- relax

NOTICES:
- Monday morning school will begin at 8:30am as usual, but the events in the gym will start at 9:30am sharp. Students will be brought to the gym at 9:15am, and the assembly will begin with honors awards, followed by graduation for K2 and Grade 5. The ceremony will end just after 11:00am, and then the students will be free to go and won't have to come back until August, or summer camp.
- you do not need to bring anything on Monday. We will chill in the classroom and play games.
- there was a newsletter handed out today with important information
- notices for damaged textbooks have also been sent home, please pay the amount on the notice if you received one

Again, I just wanted to say how thankful I was to have such an amazing group of students this year. Parents, you have wonderful children, and I can't wait to see them when they return in August. Unfortunately I have to stay in the grade 3 classroom, but fortunately Miss Fisher will do an amazing job with them. Thanks for your ongoing support at home.

Have a great summer vacation, and safe travels!

Mr. Yaremchuk

Scary to say, but only one more week to go! The Terrific Third Graders worked so hard this week finishing up on lessons. On Monday we have a few more things to wrap up, but we will start some review, and Tuesday will be devoted to review (after the Language exam).

We started the day with the last Spelling Test, and then Show and Tell. Students could talk about an item they brought to show, or they could talk about their summer vacation or weekend plans.

Following sharing time, we wrote fractions with denominators of 10 as decimals.

In Science, we went on a simple and compound machine hunt around the school grounds and found plenty.

HOMEWORK:
1) Science p. 433-435 - this is a good way to study for the simple machines unit

TESTS NEXT WEEK:
Monday - Health
Tuesday - Language Arts
Wednesday - Reading/Phonics and Science (half day)
Thursday - Social Studies and Math (half day)

NOTICES
- if you have any items/books you have borrowed from me, please return them by Tuesday
- during Assembly on Monday the House winners will be announced for the 2nd semester (Blue House won in the first semester) and the winning house will receive a pizza party on Tuesday
- next Friday will be a casual dress day as we will be doing lots of cleaning
- tuition for the 2016-2017 school year was handed out today

Study hard this weekend, but don't forget to enjoy the outdoors and get some fresh air to give your brain a break.

Have an enjoyable weekend.

May 19, 2016

Good evening parents and children.

This morning saw the students work really hard on their persuasive essays and complete their final drafts. They also had some time to proofread and make changes, if needed. We also learned about alliterations and the students got to create their own and read them out loud.

In Math, we reviewed how to add fractions and then moved on to subtract fractions with the same denominator, and play some fraction games.

We ended the day with Science and reviewed all the simple machines. Also, we defined and explained what a compound machine is and listed examples of each.

HOMEWORK:
1) Math p. 132
2) Science p. 427-428
3) Spelling Test

NOTICES:
- Show and Tell tomorrow - you may bring anything you want to show, or you may talk about your family summer holiday plans (and have a picture of what you will do)
- just a friendly reminder that next Wednesday and Thursday will be half days where students will write two exams in the morning and dismissal will be at 11:45am.
- please return your Science quiz or any other quizzes you may have

EXAMS TOMORROW:
- PE, Computer and Chinese

Have a splendid evening.

Mr. Y

May 18, 2016

Welcome to wonderful Wednesday!

This morning in Language Arts and Phonics we still continued with our Daily 5 program. The focus lessons consisted of writing a couplet poem, determining the author's purpose (theme), and peer-reviewing each others persuasive essay drafts.

For Math, we reviewed how to order fractions and added fractions with the same denominators. To practice, we played some games and answered some problem solving questions.

Science consisted of learning more about simple machines. We reviewed the lever, pulley, wheel-and-axle, and then were introduced to the wedge, inclined plane, and screw.

In Social Studies, the students got to complete some research on some famous entrepreneurs. They had to find information about the entrepreneur and get ready to present it tomorrow to the class.

In ECA, we paid a little visit to our garden and watered the soil.

HOMEWORK:
1) Math p. 131

NOTICES:
- tomorrow's exams are Christian Living and Music final exams
- Friday's exams are PE, Computer, and Chinese
- some other textbooks have been sent home today to keep the bags lighter for the weekend.
- Library tomorrow, please return your books and bring your ID

Have an excellent evening!

Mr. Yaremchuk
