And the thunder rolls..........

Welcome to the new week! Tomorrow it is already September.

This morning during assembly we had upper elementary and middle school students make a short speech to help their campaign to be elected into student council positions. All other students got the chance to vote for who they want. The student council will be involved in organizing numerous activities throughout the year.

After assembly, we started with Social Studies and discussed what a courtroom is like, and learned vocabulary. We also shared secrets about some lies we've all told before. Shhhhhhh.

The Terrific Third Graders did an excellent job in their Math quiz.

In Reading, we learned more courtroom vocabulary to prepare for the new story, "The Trial of Cardigan Jones."

HOMEWORK:
1) Reading: use the following words in a sentence - fine, worried, strolled, certainly
2) Social: p. 33 #13, 14, 15, 17

Reminders:
  • Show and Tell tomorrow
  • Social Studies quiz on Wednesday
Thanks, and have a nice evening.

Aug. 28, 2015

Happy (Rainy) Friday everybody! Alright, I've got plenty of things to say today...........

Today's events went like this:
1) Language Arts - spelling test (please return the spelling test booklet), and discussion about how to publish writing, and also how to do a writer's conference
2) Science - we reviewed the quiz, the students will take the quiz home over the weekend, but please bring them back as I need to put them in the portfolio. We briefly began the next unit on engineers and looked at some cool structures.
3) Math - worked with bar graphs (students are great at reading them), and reviewed rounding. The Math quiz is on Monday. Please study. We also had an earthquake drill, and the students all did well.
4) Reading - worked with making sentences for the vocabulary words.

NEXT WEEK TESTS/QUIZZES:
MONDAY: Math Chapter 2
WEDNESDAY: Social Studies Chapter 1
FRIDAY: Spelling Test new words: convinced, guilty, cooperate, judge, government, design, engineer, problem, solution, evaluate

HOMEWORK:
  • Reading: Write a sentence, and draw a small picture using the 4 vocabulary words
  • Social Studies: Text book review questions: p. 33 #1-12, 16
IMPORTANT NOTICES:
  1.  Mosquito spraying was canceled today because of the rain, and is rescheduled for next Friday.
  2. We will have Show and Tell on Tuesday. The purpose is to have students speak in front of the class, and use descriptive words about their item. Their item can be anything they want, but no pets please. It can be: a souvenir, special gift, something they made, something cool that people would like to see.
  3. We will begin a Dance class next week to prepare for our Christmas concert. I will be switching around a few classes to accommodate this. On Fridays: Dance will be in period 4, PE will now be in period 6. On Thursday, our ECA class will be Reading and Phonics (that was bumped from Friday). If you have any questions, please let me know.
That should be all. It was a great week, and I can't believe it will already be September next week.

Have a great weekend. I hope the rain doesn't dampen your plans too much.

Thursday's Notes for the day..........

We started the day off with the Science quiz. The questions had a lot of reading, which forced the students to use more thinking skills. I think they did very well. We will review the quiz tomorrow.

In Math, we continued to learn about rounding numbers, and we're starting to get the hang of it. Just a reminder, the Math quiz has been moved to Monday.

HOMEWORK:
1) Math p. 11
2) Journeys p. 13

IMPORTANT reminder - your child will need to be picked up from school by 4:00pm tomorrow because of the mosquito spraying that will begin shortly after.

Also, I would like each child to bring something on Tuesday for Show and Tell. The purpose for Show and Tell is to use descriptive language as they present their item. The item they bring is wide open; it can be anything like a souvenir, favorite toy, special gift, something special to your family, etc.

It was another indoor recess at lunch. We might have a dance group in the making here....Why Am Sea Eh?

Have a great evening. Stay dry!!!
