Sept. 22, 2015

Trade day Tuesday!! I'll tell you why in ECA.

As usual, our typical Tuesday covered lessons in all the core subjects.

Language Arts - learned about writing Thank You letters and cards.

Science - discussed how a plant cycle works, pollination, and how flowers can reproduce. We also checked out our bean growing experiment and surprisingly enough, the one we predicted would grow the least, has already grown into a seedling, while others are still germinating.

Math - practiced regrouping ones and tens to add

Reading - Practiced our Reader's Theatre in groups. Student's know their character and we will practice more to prepare for Thursday's performance.

Social - Located places on maps, and practiced giving directions.

ECA - As the groups are finally completing their straw towers, some groups have run out of straws or tape, so they discovered the magic of trading resources. "I'll give you some tape for a straw!" Great idea guys. Now, they are putting the finishing touches to their tower structures.

HOMEWORK: Social Studies p. 10 and Math p. 21, and also READING LOG!!! I am a little disappointed in the lack of effort in completing the reading logs. As a reminder, for each day a student completes the reading log, one DOJO point is given, and also it will count towards a homework mark for the week. If he/she reads 4 days out of 5 in the week, a mark of 80% is given for the week. If he/she reads only 2 days out of 5, a mark of 40% will be given. Reading logs should be a fun thing to do to encourage students to read. Please let me know if there are any problems. Thank you.

Have a good evening everybody!!
